The Nancy Thompson Learning Commons at Kean University offers a wealth of information resources to support the research needs of Kean faculty and students. Join our workshop to explore a number of specialized databases that can help you access a wide range of materials, including books, ebooks, peer-reviewed articles, test instruments, streaming videos, and more.

Learning Objectives:

  • The workshop will introduce the variety of Research Support and Learning Support services available to Kean students through the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons.
  • The workshop will highlight the multidisciplinary resources accessible through the Databases A-Z page.
  • The workshop will cover Periodicals A-Z as an entry point to the digital periodicals collection.
  • The workshop will feature database searching strategies that will produce relevant search results for topics of interest.
  • The workshop will introduce how members of the Kean community may use Google Scholar to access full-text articles for free through Kean's library databases. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will gain familiarity with and be able to navigate the multidisciplinary databases available through Kean University.
  • Participants will learn to develop and apply effective search strategies to locate relevant books, ebooks, journal articles, test instruments, and other information sources.
  • Participants will be able to adjust Google Scholar settings to access full-text articles through "Full Text @ Kean University."
  • Participants will understand how to utilize research and learning support services, including through LibChat and through appointments with librarians, Writing Services, Tutoring, and the Public Speaking Lab.
