Banned Books / Right to Read In-Person
This session will examine the recent influx of book bans across the U.S., focusing on the most recent 2023 book ban data that has been compiled by the American Library Association (ALA). The presenters will discuss the 'right to read' and how book challenges and bans go against our personal freedoms and target LGBTQIA+ individuals and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and their stories. The session will also go over how you can use library resources to access banned and challenged books and the many ways you can join the fight against book bans!
Presenters: Craig Anderson & Angelina Carney
